Kort BeskrivningLust, the First Deadly Sin, is considered the Least Serious. Whether it earned that leniency because Pope Gregory liked it best has not been determined, but early Christian circles still agreed that Intense Desire for anything - from the pleasures of the body to power and money- is somewhat despicable. Thomas Aquinas spent some time detailing the different ways one might commit Luxuria. ?If you?re going to do something wrong, at least do it right? (he seemed to say). If one persisted in wanting to dabble in ?funny business?, one might find oneself like the poor souls in Dante?s Inferno, blown about in highly symbolic, out of control hurricane-like winds.
What would the poet make of our modern cultures? obsession with sex and desire, where lust seeps into our poses, permeating our daily life? Maria Plotnikova?s images explore our cultural interpretation of this basic instinct- can you hear the hurricanes?
