HOME/BEYOND

HOME/BEYOND is a photo book by Thomas Niemi, made up of photographs taken at Fasching, the Stockholm jazz club he has been visiting since his late teens. In 2024 he was given the opportunity to exhibit his photographs on the walls of the club. He did everything himself, from printing and cutting the mounts to putting the photographs up, and chose only photographs taken at Fasching. The exhibition was called HOME, partly because going to Fasching has always felt a little like coming home, and partly because the photographs, in a way, were coming home too. The book has two parts. HOME brings together the photographs from the exhibition. BEYOND is what came next: photographs taken at Fasching after HOME went on the walls. HOME was about bringing the photographs home. BEYOND is about what happened next. It is the combination of everything, the staff, the room, the musicians and the music, that makes the place feel like home. This book is another way of keeping those photographs alive.
